Glance at Pongal Releases
Guru - Entering into AMC theatre makes you to feel at bigger Sathyam theatre in Chennai. The theatre has 30 units to screen and spacious enough to withstand full crowd. It was a snowy weekend where I could see 30 people for those 30 theatres:-) There were several speculations on the movie Guru as it’s a biography of Dhirubhai Ambani, Reliance Industries. Finally Mani has showed up the screens his version. There were also the several hypes as Manirathnam movie hit the screen after sometime now which is said to be usual. Can we say Guru as one of his best movie? I am not quiet sure to answer it. But still feel that he has fulfilled the expectations. The movie energizes at its completion and makes you to know about this tycoon of India. What can I comment on Manirathnam, he has done his work and seen that it marks his style. The person who has to be appreciated is Abhishek Bachan and I can see remarkable improvement in his action. When watched Dhoom II, I just thought that he survives due to the goodwill of his father. But here definitely the body language is appreciable and has done his part well. Aishwarya and all others have done their supporting roles to their best they can. The song picturization which one would expect in Mani + Rajiv combination as a grand one was naive in the movie. A.R.Rahman sits top of everyone with a commanding voice.
Thaamirabharani - Yet another movie from the masala factory of Hari. The composition is well mixed and presented in a pleasing manner. Hari once again has done his standardized format of presentation but is successful to cover up the mass. Yup! the movie tops the pongal release of Tamil movies according to me. Comedy, action, sentiments and drama are mixed in right proportions and enjoyable to watch. Vishal, watch him he is climbing the stairs of mass hero silently and steadily. Prabhu is choosing his right roles at his age and not attempting to do the main hero role which is a positive move. He is providing the way to the young stars and sidelining himself in character roles still being the center of movie. Nadhiya, I think still can come one round as heroine. A good family entertainer and will run at rural areas with packed houses.
Pokiri - Control + C pixel by pixel from Telugu version still marks its presence. As I said before here, this will be a 100 days movie for Vijay as this is a movie for himself with mass attractions stuff. Prabhu deva debut movie as director in Tamil doesn't have to think much as he has the original version in hand. He can be evaluated only on his own script and play in future. Vijay, neither improvements nor disappointments to his fans. A full meal for them to enjoy every bit. Asin, her beauty has increased in multiples every movie I watch. From Ullam Ketkume to here, just a long breathe by me. Vadivelu its time to pack your old styles and people get bored from the same stuff you provide in each movie. Except for the Gajini song joke, your presence is just a break for smokers. Prakash Raj has done his role with his usual traits yet to his level pissing in pants was bit awkward. First time watchers would enjoy 100 percent and of course do Vijay's fans.
Alwar – “Yapa thangave mudiala”! This movie if taken in 1980 would have been a massive hit. Ajith is back to his usual looks but yet disappointing in selecting his movies. Taking avatars to kill his enemies would be better suited for Vijayakanth not for Ajith. Rejecting Naan kaduvul by Bala due to various reasons is a blunder made by him. If he still continuous to with these stereotypes and think Vijay as his fellow to beat then his equations might completely go wrong. The movie has Ajith, Vivek, Asin and many others but makes no impact as the story line and play are weak. Sella, debut director from S.J Surya group, no comments to say. An ordinary movie with big casts in its cards.
