The Come Back :-)

Oh yes, it’s a pity for the people who were happy till now, since I wasn't making a scratch at this place. Sorry dudes, I am back in action after a scheduled break. I was feeling odd seeing the dyonara sorry sayonara post daily on the sheet. Ethana naal da tata katauva...

It’s been busy and enjoying for me here in Chennai. The climate in the evening is bit cold and perfectly suits my long ride in the new bike. Apart from these, the moment I enter my home Kolangal, Selvi or Manaivi gives me a warm welcome and makes me feel at home. The Tamil TV channels and the other things specific to Tamil nadu takes me back in delight where contrast I remember the lonely days at Chicago.

After coming back to Chennai watched couple of movies. Not a single movie was to the mark. Every time I go to a movie with zeal, it totally disappoints me. First Aadhi, as said in Kumudam magazine, it’s a huge blow for Vijay for acting stereo type movies. The movie has nothing than the old movie recap in a new title.

Next was Rang de basanti. There was a huge hype given for this very normal movie. When I was in the theatre seeing the banners, I just thought it’s going to mind blowing. But after watching the film, came out with a headache and my hairs were standing like antenna. May be I am not that level to understand what the director wants to convey. But one thing was striking to me, Mudalvan, Indian, Gentleman, Ayudha ezhuthu spoke more on the subject which Rang de basanti tried to speak in the movie as core issue. Only thing appreciative was the screen play with old and new characters. Yes, agreed we need more historic hero’s like Bhagat singh, Bose...to make India a great nation. But as a movie, it was a total let down.

This week latest release Kalvanin Kadhali shortly called as KK was an utter crap. I think S.J.Surya can better stop coming in the screen and concentrate as before in the back ground. There was not a single scene were his dialogue delivery was good. Kathina mattum podhuma Surya, konjam pesaratha uzhunga pesunga, poriyave matengrathu. His high glossy make up makes me feel as if I have come to old koothu drama, where the stage actor acting as Lord Krishna would apply the blue color makeup to the core with shiny chumkees. The movie’s only said plus point is Nayanthara. Dudes don't misconceive as I am appreciating here for her acting. No way!

The above is the grievance of a common film-goer, who loves to watch movies with a difference. But kollywood did not fulfill the hopes. I hope the under production projects satisfy the hungry Tamil film lovers who are waiting for a good film to be watched for this season.

Sayonara to Chicago!

It’s time for me to get back home after this short assignment. Professionally and personally, I learnt few new things here. I am excited to see my family, friends and place after this stopgap. Chennai, bike ride, FM, tea kada, beach, theatres and of course the people hmm... fun to experience them. I am pressing the pause button for blogging from now. Once I settle down, I would restart again. Hope I press the play soon. Dudes, bye for now :-)

This song is from the movie ULLAM KETKUMAE. The song was sung by Hariharan and music by Harris Jayraj. I have got some mp3 cds here from India. I used to hear this song earlier when I was at home. But here in my room, alone and during night when I hear this song its mind blowing and its altogether a different feel. I don't really count how many times I repeat this song in the player. But when I start this song, it continues to repeat till I close this black box. Particularly Hariharan voice jells with the lyrics and the delicate music adds a soft touch. An amazing number to hear. Got added to my list of ever green favorites. o manamae o manamae...

AN HONOURABLE NOTE

Its one of the great age mark, he had reached today. I am proud to be his blood relation. I am unable to express in words the pleasure I experience on this occasion. I definitely miss this cherishing moment being along with him. But still I have my hearty wishes for him. I pray that he lives long and every moment be with me. I have a great respect to him and salute him for giving me everything including my life. He is one of the wonderful human being in this world. Thanks DAD!

      Blog walk-through

Read an interesting post on hawkeyeview with the title What is your salary? The post is in two parts.

      Part - I
      Part - II

The blogger is right and the points put forth by him seem to be a valid one. I too had similar experiences and hate to ask someone salary. It’s none of my business and a salary can do anything in judging ones' capability. As the blogger has mentioned, the weed is engrafted in the schools. I have seen relatives who first when you say you got a job, immediately they would question about what’s the salary? Then he\she compares the said salary with a person living in their near by street working in same type of company. Instead of feeling happy of getting a job, it humiliates you. I met a person in my company after few months I joined the company. After few first section of a communication, he questioned me what is your salary? This he did to check whether his and mine are same. Since, he has also joined in the same designation. I gazed him once and out of hate told it. Next is even worse. It was annual remuneration hike. A person who works in the same place, asked me what’s your hike? With a cruel face and biting teeth told it. He was surprised a bit and after sometime he mailed me asking for my latest pay slip softcopy to argue with HR for equal rise. My goodness! I was surprised by his mail, how he can ask so openly which is supposed to be confidential and ones private subject. Again here once I came to Chicago, I met a NRI and the same question was put forward. As the blogger has mentioned just don't ask it. It annoys others and looses the value of good friend.

      Saw day first!

Per 1: The movie was yet another love story presented in a different way. The screenplay of the movie is good and doesn't bore you much. There are no big cast or huge production values; still the movie has a good amount of amusement. The way the narration goes on is interesting and makes you to watch it without much restlessness. The director has done a good job in creating events in an interesting way. The knots of some of the scenes were appreciable.

Per 2: The movie is a different one, but still same old sentiments were carried in the movie. Some of the scenes are seen for decades in history of Tamil movies. There were loops holes present in some of the scenes. Though the production value is low, you can get a feel of stage drama in some places. The second half of the story goes as expected by each one of us. There was neither twist nor thrill in the second half of the play.

Per 1: The main hero has done quiet a decent job. The expressions were pretty much improved from his earlier movies. The actor had good amount of maturity especially in the second half. He has a long way to go and suits for this kind of drama type movies. If he doesn't try for big bulls’ action type roles, I hope he would continue well. He has done a neat job and had put good effort to his work. The other hero has done his role decently. Especially his voice has good impact to his characterization as a NRI. I think he needs a good break in a solo soft hero role, for which he should be trying his best. The actor has fitted perfectly in the given role in the movie.

Per 2: The main hero though has done well; still lot of improvements has to be done in many areas. Some of the places he looked very casual and the body language doesn't fit in them. The other hero has little scope to perform. His body doesn't coordinate well in songs, has to improvise in them.

Per 1: The heroine has done a decent job. She was peppy and bounced back as expected. She has done earlier this kind of role and suits her perfectly. All other casts have done the job properly given to them.

Per 2: Though the heroine has suited, in some scenes she looked like very elder to hero. The alarm has ringed for her to perform sister or supporting roles in coming movies. Some of the other casts were loosely coupled in the movie.

Per 1: The director has proved herself and had saved her mentors value. She has long way and as a debut film; the movie has come out well and has opened a wide gate for her. The producer has given earlier such sweet low budget films. He is some of the few persons in the film industry to invest the money what he earns back into the same. I though felt he should have done a cameo role in the movie giving a jerk to audience. The music was good, and the background score was binding together with the movie.

Per 2: The director could have avoided some of the usual scenes. She could have given more to the technical aspects as her mentor is known for it. Except for few songs and back ground, it makes you tough to believe that the music was rendered by this musician.

Dudes, the above discussion was about the movie Kanda Naal Mudhal. The Per 1 and Per 2 was actually the way hero [Prasanna] and heroine [Laila] was characterized. Both were portrayed as opposite characters and I have used the same in the above review. Hope you all like way. The casts were Prasanna, Laila, Karthik, Lakshmi, Revathy and others. Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, directed by Priya, who was earlier worked with Manirathnam and produced by Prakash Raj.

[P.S. Fourth Dimension was added to narsidude :-) Hows' it?]

Watching Swades sitting here in Chicago is totally a different experience. I cannot explain it in few lines, though I am watching the movie for the second time, the feel was not similar. I am such an unblushing guy, that I can say "Oh! Watching Swades is different here". So what, anything am I going to do! Nothing right, then why the heck writing this? Don't know myself :-(

      Scroll updates

I was scrolling through blogs for new updates in the intricate trap. Got hold of teakada page. The latest post California'vil Beedhiii was good and comical. It portrayals the exact picture of the current Tamil TV media in a mirthful way. But this is what in reality is happening. For petty things huge hungama is done. The meaning of information is broken and forcing people to believe what they provide is the actual information. If this continues then it’s not going to be helpful to any one. Some basics have to be followed. Technical things are apart, still the content is important. If it is found void, then what’s the use of providing round the clock live etc...? The actual purpose is wasted. It’s just showcasing their power in the world of media.

Another post, Not Mylapore, please!!, my goodness I laughed to the core for some of the lines in it. This is about the current situation in T.Nagar. The way it was narrated by one of bloggers in the team was humorous. I was looking peculiar for sometime, since I was reading and laughing in a room where no one was there :-)

Few fav. lines from the post

My wife wants some good silk sarees. Where do I take her?
Push her into Pothys and run. This is your best chance to live with some self respect in future.

I heard there are lots of platform shops?
There is no platform. Only shops.

      Whatever, how good are they?
Very good infact. You get all sortsa brands including Nykee, Ribok and Adeedas. At cheap rates that too!

Hey isn't that phony? The spellings are all messed up!!
Naah. They have been changed according to numerology, that's all.

Fine. Is there any good restaurant there?
      Ya, Saravana Bhavan.

Wow! What would I get there for, say 50 rupees?
Quite a lot. Half a dosa, 5 ml Sambhar and some pebbles.

      Pebbles? Why??
Huh, you are dumber than a crow! To raise the level of sambhar ofcourse.

      No chutney is it?

They have it in a big vessel near the entrance. You are allowed to take a peek.

The first day of the Year!

[Courtesy:movie-gazette.com; Click snap for a blow up]
The day before the New Year and today I had lots of phone wishes and email greetings [Arambichutanya!]. I got up early on a Sunday and on a new year only because of the phone calls wishes. Thanks to all of them remembering and wished me personally. I had one full day and of course the first day of the year. So had my early lunch and went to a film for which I had the expectations as I do have for a Rajini film. I had conversations before with Lazygeek about the film, who gave a blazing opening page for this movie in tribute to the director, film and the HERO. Yes, I watched the beast, the new Hollywood superstar whose splendid performance was gazed by me, KINGKONG. I have seen movies where beast was a horror, but here as a flip it’s our most liked hero. Come on dudes; cheer him up with an ear knocking whistle. The KINGKONG was a terror to all but not for our cute heroine. As in commercial Tamil movie, our hero in this film saves the heroine from villains. But these villains are also of same genotype. The roar, the sniffing, the loud shouts, the thumping beat on the chest, the sad looks and the angry face all these expressions of our fabulous hero would stay in my mind quiet some time. Amazing movie to watch!

It’s going to be a kabala motcham for me. Finally, I saw a movie in US of A in a Cineplex. After watching a fantastic movie did loads of shopping. Like a hungry man, shopped the items. When the bill came, just scratched my head thinking what have I purchased!! After the hunt, went to StarBucks for having evening snacks\coffee with my friend and his family. Hmm… after a longtime got the taste of typical south Indian filter coffee. Had a nice dinner in my friends’ house, watching our thalaiver movie, Annamalai. Man damn it, thalai is too good to watch in the movie. I don't know the exact count of watching this film. But still I don't get bored watching again. This man has the fire in his eyes. Thalai kalakitaru. Chumma suddku pottu Malai da Annamalai nu solumpothu, naama body kulla jivunu etho nadakuthu. Came back to my den, with a good satisfying first day of the year.

      Welcome onboard Mr.2006 :-)

      I met her in Chicago!

I am here in Chicago for quite some time. During the mid of November one day I was just coming back from office. I was bit tired and was just feeble. Suddenly she came in a flash. I saw her for the first time. I couldn't resist myself and was feeling glad. This was my first experience to see her. As days passed by I started seeing her frequently. Slowly my relation started with her and met her day-after-day. I started to touch her and slowly it became a regular habit. In Tamil there is a quote "Aasai arubathu naal, mogam mupathu naal". This was true in her case. My body started giving troubles due to the relation with her and I was feeling comfortless. Slowly I started to avoid her and totally hated her. Whenever I see her on a day, I just feel depressed. I totally neglect her and concealed myself inside four walls. Nowadays I meet her more often but I am helpless to neglect her completely. Do you want to know her identity? Just highlight the next line with your cursor, she would be visible. Her name is SNOW :-)

      Toothpick

Podcasting, the teckie word I see quite often in many blogs that I read. So, decided to know the exact definition of this new unit of language for me. I searched the online knowledge repository - wikipedia. Got to read about the technology and traveled through the links from there and refreshed with other common terminologies. Handful of pointers down with a small introduction of their definition for the newbie's around.

Podcast -> A pod cast is simply a web feed of audio files that is placed on the Internet for anyone to download. Read more about the Mechanics, podcatchers…here.

Web syndication -> Web syndication is a form of syndication in which a section of a website is made available for other sites to use.

RSS -> RSS is a family of XML files formats for Web syndication used by news websites and web logs. The abbreviation is used to refer to Really Simple Syndication.

Web 2.0 -> The term "Web 2.0" refers to what some people see as a second phase of development of the World Wide Web, including its architecture and its applications. A transition of websites from isolated information silos to sources of content and functionality, thus becoming a computing platform serving web applications to end users.

AJAX -> Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, or Ajax, is a web development technique for creating interactive web applications using a combination of XHTML (or HTML) and CSS for marking up and styling information.

Ironical to the above, read a post on the Chennai underworld [via Dabbler] in Narain's Tamil blog. The post was very realistic and replicates what I had seen around the place I live in Chennai. I too had seen many weird scenes of these so called dadas' around my area. As my area was very close to the place, where ex-up-don of the Chennai lived.

I still recollect the incident that took place just opposite to my home. I was around 12 years and this particular incident still never vanished from my thoughts. There was chaos and loud voices of people outside. I ran to the balcony to check out the happenings. I saw a man running into one of the shop and a group of people chasing him. They all went inside the shop and there was a loud shout from inside the shop. The whole shop was smashed by the gangsters. After some time the person who ran inside came out with a single hand, the other hand was cut off by the bunch of atrocious people. The shop owner was in a pathetic state. His shop was ruined totally; the shop was full of blood and also has to wander around the police station and court for sometime. For a moment, I was shaken a bit. Still I can visualize the scenes that happened and cannot forget it easily.

      Back Fire :-(

It’s a sin of being and continuing as a vegetarian living in US of A. You have vegetable food available but don't have many varieties except in Indian restaurants. Most of the vegetarian food available here are with bread and as a south Indian, I do not take this much in quantity of this square white item.

Recently, I visited to one of the Italian restaurants in Chicago for lunch. I ordered for a vegetable salad and heap of chopped vegetables [some of which I am still searching their names] was put in a bowl and kept in front. I do admit that the vegetable salad is nutritious and healthier food. Also, the taste wasn't that bad. But when eating some of the leaves given in the salad, thought that my entire mom curse is coming true. I used to demand a variety in food with excellent taste at home. I cannot resist a small composition of change in the taste of the food. If something goes wrong either Saravana Bhavan or a Rathna Cafe parcel has to nullify the less taste food that’s prepared. Also, several times yelling at my mom saying see others house, they prepare dozen of food items for each time with better taste. I think all her whammy, making me to struggle to eat good items as well as with self cooking. Thought for a moment that my mom coming next to me and saying "Dei konjam uppo kamiya potta enna sound viduve, ippa paru aadu sapidratha ellam sapidra". But I know truly she won't say this!

      Life,,, Experience...

You are having something with you. But the current thing seems to you as nothing. You wonder about big things seen around you but not able to get it. You dream about it. You tend to neglect or give the least importance to the current precious thing you have already. When your thing that you dreamt comes near your sight, you feel an odd person and think yourself not a person for the big thing. After some time you get a chance to move around all the big things you used to dream. Now it becomes very common for you. You feel comfortable in all those big things. You feel you are one among the group of the big things you dreamt.

Finally, realize that what you had before is the precious thing and missed to understand the meaning of it. This comes out after you are experienced.

Life is a great teacher. Vanakam Vadhiyare!

      Modern Thathuvams

Seems like the thathuvam for the day is catching up in and out of the electronic mail boxes. Wondering how this trend started. Most recent days, my mail box receives in an average 3 per week, excluding repeat forwards.

Some were really witty. Check out some the sample thavums below that I got recently:

India, Burma, Malaysia, Singapore, America, Japan, Europe...the list continues, ore para parapu. Dudes, what do you think, is it NIJAM pakku ad. No, not at all. Just 2-3 photos of a movie have created such a thunder storm around the world. Most of the internet information today, is flooded with these photos, rumors, own stories, information about the film. Most of the mails, I received today has some connection on this movie. Most of the persons, I met today asked me at least "Photo super illa...” If such an impact a movie-still can make, I am just wondering myself.

He would act after a year or 5 years, but still the enthusiasm and the expectation only doubles or triples. Exceptions around the world get this sort of attention. He is such an exception, I believe and admire.

Though the main still wearing jeans and a white shirt is appealing and conveys what it has to. I personally like the one with dark green kurtha. Oh my goodness! Is he Rajini or brother of Dhanush?

THE BOSS is on, let us wait and watch the work of a fabulous team. In very rare situations, you would get to see such combinations as a team. It’s like picking the best specialist in different areas and forming a cricket team.

      India 2060

Florida, May 02, 2061: Steve met Jenny in a hotel and told that he had got an interview scheduled today at Indian embassy for IH1 visa. Jenny congratulated and asked what happened to her dependent visa interview. He said it’s after 2 days from his date. He said finally after 2 years of waiting time, they have got the dates. He said his friend Rocastrio has already left to the aluminum valley Chennai as software consultant to Munusamy solutions Inc. He is earning 5ooo INR as his monthly salary and it is equal to 250000 USD. Steve said that his company has fixed him for a monthly salary of 6000 INR. Jenny hearing this was very happy and they went back home after the candle light dinner.

Both of them finished their interview and got their visa stamped. Steve booked the tickets in Chennai airlines to land at the aluminum valley. He had got a job at Velu solutions Inc. and his client place was Ambica appalam depot. He was in charge of developing a software solution for his client to get the sales and their revenue reports in various dimensions. He and his wife caught the flight and landed safely at Chennai airport, the world’s second busiest international airport. He had taken all the cool clothes like transparent shirts with many holes in it and many shorts to keep him cool in the hot climate.

After getting out into the land of opportunities, he was very happy and delighted. He walked in search of hotel for his stay. He said to Jenny with in 15 days, he needs to search for an apartment in the outskirts of Chennai as it is very costly to get a house with in the city. They both got into a taxi and were amazed by seeing the tall buildings hitting the sky. They were wondering about the neat roads and the terrific but disciplined traffic. They then got a room in Extended Stay India hotel. After visiting to the famous beach, they then shopped at T.Nagar after getting an appointment at 6.00pm. They had to wait for their shopping time for 5 hours and allowed time was 20 minutes. They then got some of the top selling brands of sarees and some pants for him. When they were inside a shop, Steve met one of his old friends, who was shopping at the same time. Then after they completed their shopping Steve and his friend family went to an restaurant for dinner.

His friend Allen, who was a red card holder and was working for the State Electricity board as Program manager, was surprised to meet Steve. Steve then told about his job and his client place. Allen said to Steve, it’s a golden opportunity for him. If you perform well at your client place then you will end up in getting the red card soon. He also said, if you get to stay here you will get the best of everything. Only thing in initial stage you need to get your credit points. After that you can take loan from any of the local banks and own an apartment. Jenny and Allen’s wife Susan were discussing about the house hold items. Susan said to Jenny that to get all the house hold items Thalai-mart is the best place to go. It’s cheap and has everything. After chatting more they left from the place exchanging their contact information.

First day at office, Steve was bit nervous. He had to meet his project manager Kabali. The project manager called him to his room and said look Steve this is one of our prestigious projects and has to be executed without any failure. Already we have done such a project to Krishna sweets and it’s successfully executed. One of your project members Arnold has been in the Krishna sweets project and you can take his support. Steve went out from his office to go to his client place with confidence and positive in his mind.

Dudes, you would be wondering what’s all this, what happened to narsidude. Recently happen to read some of the science fiction stories of Shujata. I enjoyed reading it and so wanted to try out something similar. That’s the result above. I know that I can't be as him. But just a simple try. In Mudhalvan movie, Arjun says like "Namalum veshtiya madichu katti samyal panuvom, athuvum nalla varum ana athey daily panna mudiyathu". The same point here too. I just tried to put my hands on it. Hope you all like it.
